Vitamin D status related to incidence of tooth loss, according to new study

In a new study published in Journal of Dental Research, researchers found that low vitamin D levels may be related to increased incidence of tooth loss.

Evidence continues to suggest a role for vitamin D in dental health. Recent research shows that higher vitamin D levels may decrease risk of inflammation and infection of the gums, dental caries, and tooth loss.

Despite the existing research on vitamin D and tooth loss, not many studies have looked at whether other factors of dental health may impact the effect of vitamin D on tooth loss.
