In this episode, Dr. John Cannell interviews JoEllen Welsh, PhD. She is a world renowned expert in vitamin D and breast cancer research with 22 years of experience studying the basic mechanisms by which  vitamin D inhibits the growth of breast cancer.

Dr. Welsh is a professor at the University at Albany Cancer Research Center and has received several externally funded grants for her research efforts. Most recently, Dr. Welsh and her team received a $1.76 million 5-year grant from the National Institute in order to further their investigation on the mechanism behind vitamin D on triple negative breast cancer.

Dr. Welsh shares her expertise on vitamin D and breast cancer based on her extensive research efforts over the past several years. She also evaluates current epidemiological and in vitro studies and gives listeners a sneak peek into her current NIH funded research project.

    How important is the retinoid X receptor in activating the VDR?
    Is there a relationship between RXR activation and the amount of exogenous vitamin D needed to “saturate” the VDR?
    Has anybody looked at the relationship between these in cancer cells?
