Since vitamin d is so stable can i "fortify" my own food. Specifically if i can't get my kids to take the drops because of the taste, then can i put the drops in foods. I actually bought vitamin d in MCT oil (olive oil). They like olive oil in food but not alone. I considered the following: making the scrambled eggs and when mixing the eggs, put 6 drops of 400 IU into a mix of four eggs (for two kids). Is this effective way of getting more vitamin d into my kid's diet? can i put the vitamin d elsewhere in prepared foods since it is heat stable? Thanks in advance!

    Dear Maya, I have successfully fortified food with vitamin D drops, and the proof is in my 25(OH)D level, which is always in the healthy range. I wouldn’t cook with the vitamin D drops, but rather put the drops in food after cooking is done. Or, add drops to your favorite beverage. Best of luck, Rita Celone Umile

    I can only make a “guess” on part of this.
    I would be afraid that if I put it in an entire dish, then it might not “mix” up correctly and one person might get more Vitamin D then the other would. Also what would happen if someone “does” not finish everything on their plate? Does that mean some Vitamin D is left behind?
    If you do not take this “opportunity” to teach them how important it is to take and “instill good habits”, then when they “get older” and are on their own, they may not take any.
    There is technically nothing wrong to adding it to a food or beverage. I would also worry that if it is not done “first thing in the morning”, then it might get forgotten in a busy day.
    I wonder how it would “taste” if it was in a tablespoon full of something like applesauce or yogurt or a tiny bit of fruit juice?

    I understand the hesitation of cooking with it but the fact remains that the vitamin D is heat stable. Theoretically i should be able to put it in eggs or meatballs or quiche.

    Our vitamin D tastes like olive oil. I for sure could put it in a salad dressing.
    I am just trying to explore and understand the limitations. (I am a sciencey geek)
