If your blood work shows a high Vitamin D level, can you still be deficient because your body isn't absorbing it?

    Hi,

If your blood test shows a high 25(OH)D level, then that is what your circulating levels are and a good indicator of the amount your body is using. This is because this form of vitamin D has already gone through absorption (either through sunshine or by digestion of supplements) and has been converted by the liver from vitamin D3 to 25(OH)D.

The 25(OH)D level that a blood test will reveal is the form of vitamin D that goes on to be activated and then binds to receptors on cells and in tissues.
