I was diagnosed with Vit D deficiency in Nov 2014 (22). My doctor gave me 50,000UI a week for a month then in late Dec was tested again my level only increased 2 pts so now I am taking 3,000ui daily but am concerned that when I'm tested again in Feb 2015 my levels my still be under 30. Is it possible that my other medications are interfering with the absorption of the Vit D? I take 3,000 Vit D3, Sertraline, Zoloft, and METOPROLOL SUCCINATE XL and I take them all at the same time along with cinnamon, tart cherry and CoQ10. Could this be a problem?
The 50,000iu Of Vitamin D was probably D2 (prescription Vitamin D is D2) and D3 is much better for the human body. So switching you to 3000iu D3 is great! Unfortunately it will probably take 5000iu of Vitamin D to get to 50ng/ml or over which is what the Vitamin D Council recommends. A level of 30ng/ml is NOT optimal. So no it is not an interaction with the medicines, you just were not taking the right “D” and not taking enough. Make sure you also read http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/about-vitamin-d/vitamin-d-and-other-vitamins-and-minerals/. This is very important! But I would like to ask why you are taking the METOPROLOL SUCCINATE XL? High blood pressure, AFIB, anxiety or other? Depending on your answer might be more advice/information! Also above I said 5000iu but you can safely take 10,000iu a day. You may need this “upper” limit of Vitamin D, or a blood level closer to 100ng/ml, to help/cure diseases and/or conditions.
