Hi. I have a current D level of 49 measured in nmol/L (Canada). I will see my MD in March. Last week I started taking D3 1000 with K2 (MK-7) 100mcg. Is that enough? I'm over 150lbs. I know you should take D3 with some fat, however can you take it just before bed or is it better to take during the daytime. Thanks!!

We here at the VDC recommend maintaining a “healthy” Vitamin D level defined as minimum 50ng/ml(125nmol/l). Too many studies have shown that with levels below 40ng/ml (100nmol/l), your chances for cancer and autoimmune disease “rises dramatically”.
For most people weighing 150lbs it takes 5000iu a day to get to this level. Your 1000iu will not be enough. If you weigh more than that, you can do another 1000iu for every 25lbs over the 150lbs. If you have health issues than this may not be enough. Do not let the doctor talk you into “this is too much and that you will overdose”. You would have to take 40,000iu per day for several months before you “may” become toxic.
The amount of K2 is enough unless future studies indicate otherwise.
There is not a “hard and fast rule” on when to take it. If you take it at night and for example, it disturbs your sleep, then you need to switch .

Thank you for answering my questions so quickly. I’m definitely going to take your advice. I thought of one more question….can I open the capsules and add it to drinks, food, etc.?
