Hi, I am a 54 y/o women with Vit D value of 20. (I was tested years ago and it was 25.) I have been experiencing fatigue for years and attributed it to Wellbutrin and Celexa. After reading about Vit D, I am wondering if I will feel better with increasing my levels. I am in week 1 of 50,000 IU and will be retested at week 13. Also wondering how long it may take to feel the positive effects of Vit D?

    First thing is, was the 20 measured as ng/ml or nmol/l because it makes a big difference between being very deficient and very, very deficient?
    Yes, I would say one of the number one complaints of low Vitamin D is “fatigue”. Number one reason for low back pain is low Vitamin D.
    Low Vitamin D can also cause depression and anxiety.
    Is the 50,000iu D2 or D3? It is better for humans to take D3 and NOT D2! It is also better for humans to take D3 daily rather than weekly. So 50,000iu once a week equals about 7-8000iu a day. If you weigh more than an average of 150lbs, then you might need to take even more! (Let me know if this applies.)
    I highly recommend everyone reads http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/about-vitamin-d/vitamin-d-and-other-vitamins-and-minerals/. It is very important. If you have anxiety and it worsens, then you will need to supplement with magnesium. Low magnesium will also cause other symptoms, so if you start any new symptoms, come back and tell me.
    I am not a doctor but I have worked with some other people on the Q and A that took meds like you do. I do try and warn them that I do not know if it is possible for the “Vitamin D” to correct enough issues, that maybe the “meds” may no longer be necessary at some point. So what I am also really trying to warn them about is to watch out for what would be “serotonin syndrome”. No one has ever come back and told me this happened to them. In a sense if you were taking blood pressure medicine or diabetes meds, for example, I would also give you the same caution.
    Here at the VDC we believe in maintaining a “healthy” level of 50ng/ml(125nmol/l). At levels below 40ng/ml your risk for cancer and autoimmune disease rises “dramatically”.
