hello:-) How much Vitamin D can I give my kid who is 7 years and about 25 kilo. And for myself With both ehlers danlos syndrom(thin skin) and chronic pain in joints and muscles, can I take 10000 iu for 8 weeks now to see if it Works With my pain?

    I forgot to ask about magnesium and Calcium, do I need to take supplements of this in that period? Normally?( if I continue to take 5000 iu per day?

    First please read http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/about-vitamin-d/vitamin-d-and-other-vitamins-and-minerals/. It is very important.
    Most people get enough calcium in their diets but not magnesium and also maybe not Vitamin K. If there is not enough magnesium the Vitamin D may give you “symptoms”. Since you already have enough pain, we do not want to create more. Vitamin D actually helps calcium absorb from the intestines and Vitamin K moves calcium to bone instead of soft tissue. If you think you do not get the RDA in your diet for calcium, then perhaps you should take some. You did not say what your Vitamin D levels are.
    As far as I know someone like you can take Vitamin D but if you do and symptoms get worse OR you get any new symptoms, come back and tell me right away.
    I could not quite understand if your child also has Ehlers or just you?
    A normal child weighing 25 kg needs 2000iu a day. (It is 1000iu for every 12kg of body weight.) This should give him/her a level of 50ng/ml (125nmol/l). We consider this a “healthy” level and the “minimum” you should strive for. If your child has Ehlers they may need even more. I would start with the 2000iu and see what happens. Always take Vitamin D with food that has some fat in it for better absorption. If later you need to increase your child’s Vitamin D, then you might have to add Vitamin D to this capsule since two capsules are really made for an adult. You can also use this but again if going to 10,000iu or more, would have to add other Vitamin D that has no added vitamins or minerals.
    It was hard for me to understand if you have already been taking 5000iu? (If so how long have you been taking that amount?) If you have with “no ill affects”, then you can take 10,000iu. Again you may also need even more than that. I would take the 10,000iu for 8 weeks and then come back and tell me how you are feeling! I would really like to know!
    We have learned about ehlers danlos syndrome on the Council’s website but no one has really said whether or not people may need higher levels to feel well.
