Dear Dr, I have gone theough your blogs and very thankful for the research work you have done on Vitamin D effects. I have a son who has just completed 3 and he is still non verbal. We have done all testing like Bera and then we met best Phsychiatrist and all are saying he doesnt come under any autism or anyother disorder there is only a speech delay. He is not hyper like hand flippig etc and no traits of autism..So we have tested for Vitamin D,B12,Thyroid panel and blood profile..All tests are normal except Vitamin D which is at 8.3..Doctor has started him with 60,000 IU per week for 8 weeks and then retest and again adjust the dose..My question is whether Vitamin D will help him in his speech or it helps only for Autistic kids? Secondly is the dose of 60k per week sufficient? Awaiting for your kind help.. Thanks and Regards..

Someone else just asked this question so please read https://www.vitamindcouncil.org/topic/my-5-year-old-is-almost-non-verbal-could-vitamin-d-help-her-develop-language/. (Dr. Cannell answered this question instead of myself.)
Your child is “extremely deficient” in Vitamin D and the level is in the “Rickets range”. We here at the VDC believe healthy levels are a minimum of 50ng/ml (125nmol/l).
Now in that posting above Dr. Cannell recommends 150iu per pound and to maintain a higher level at 70-80ng/ml. So for example if your child weighed 35lbs then you would give them 5250iu A DAY. (You might have to round the iu’s either up or down for example 5000iu.)
It is better to take Vitamin D daily but you can do the 60,000iu once a week. Even though it “averages” more than the 5000iu a day, I would still give it.
I encourage everyone to read http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/about-vitamin-d/vitamin-d-and-other-vitamins-and-minerals/.
Very important to retest in 8 weeks.
Could you please come back in 8 weeks and let me know what their level is?
If you have anymore questions please ask!
