Amid other things i was told i was really deficient in vitamin d, im sure she said i had levels of only 7 ( i did have a baby 7 months before this) my question is that i have been prescribed a daily dose of 800 ui d3. From what i have read on pretty much every forum it sounds as though this is too low to deal with such a severely low level of vitamin d. Should i question this prescription. I have been told to take it for 6 months and go back for more bloods tho also been referred to haematology for investigation into other factors. I had my parathyroid tested but not my thyroid. My folate levels were low too but not as severe. Doctor did not mention anything about k2 or magnesium. Advice please? Thanks

    When your “level” is that low, most doctors prescribe 50,000iu once a week. Studies have shown it is best to take Vitamin D on a daily basis. So this would mean you should take about 8000-10,000iu of Vitamin D a day. After 8 weeks then levels should be tested again to make sure they have risen and have risen to a “healthy” level of 50ng/ml (125nmol/l) or higher. If it has, you can then take a maintenance dosage of 5000 iu a day. As a side note if you get pregnant again, you should take a higher amount during pregnancy, probably the 8-10,000iu.
    At levels below 40ng/ml, your chances for cancer and autoimmune disease rises “dramatically”.
    Any other health issues, for example anemia, are most likely coming from your low level of Vitamin D.

You will have to decide if you eat well enough to not need to take extra of these in supplemental form. Magnesium many times is the one lacking. Vitamin D uses a lot of magnesium. So if you start to take Vitamin D and then have new symptoms, it is usually from lack of enough Vitamin D. If this happens, come back and tell me.
    Our recommendations for babies and children are 1000 iu for every 25lbs of body weight. If the baby has any type of health issues at this point, you need to tell me.
