Today, July 21st, 2015, marks the first day of the Vitamin D Council fundraising pledge drive. The goal of the fundraiser is to raise $40,000 in thirty days in order to sustain the Vitamin D Council and allow the organization to continue to grow.
The Vitamin D Council is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization striving to educate the public on the importance of vitamin D, sun exposure and health.
Founder and executive director Dr. John Cannell states, “The Vitamin D Council has come a long way from where it began. It started as a website ran in my home. Now, it’s an organization that has 4 office employees and receives nearly 4 million unique views per year.”
The combination of Dr. John Cannell’s commitment to public health and the support of the website’s dedicated followers share the responsibility for the success of the nonprofit organization.
“None of this would have been possible without the support of our followers. Together, we have made tremendous differences in individuals’ lives by increasing awareness and knowledge of vitamin D and sun exposure,” says Missy Sturges, Program Manager of the VDC.
An estimated 80% of the Vitamin D Council’s funds derive from individual donations, making the fundraising campaign essential for the organization’s existence.
In addition to sustaining the Council, the Vitamin D Council is hoping to increase follower involvement even more this year. The fundraiser now has options for supporters to donate towards a specific project. All projects were created from a previous survey in the newsletter that had asked readers what they wanted to see from the VDC in the future. The projects include a health professional listing, a more personalized newsletter and much, much more!
As a thank you, the Vitamin D Council will give unique gifts to donors. All donors will be entered into a raffle to receive awesome prizes, such as an in-home vitamin D test kit or even the chance to have a conference call with Dr. Cannell.
Donations of $100 or more will qualify for the 2015 Vitamin D Enthusiast bundle, which includes a bottle of Biotech Pharmacal’s 5,000 IU vitamin D3 supplements, a vitamin D teal water bottle, a one-year membership to the VDC and a sustainable vitamin D tote bag. There are many other great gift options available as well.
“We cannot even begin to express our gratitude to our supporters. Because of them, people are living happier and healthier lives. No gift could ever fully express the importance of their support,” says Amber Tovey, Community Outreach Manager of the Vitamin D Council.
