Reply To: For many years had severe vitamin D deficiency (under 10 ng). I experienced no health issues.
Yet when doc recommended that I take D (as I don't go outdoors). Nothing he gave me, worked. Nothing. D drops 2000 IU/day, then injection (300K IU). Nothing would raise my D level.
Yet after being prescribed Bio-Tech 50,000 IU/once a week. After only 6 months, my D level went up to 50-55 ng. I then continued the weekly 50K/week for over a year.
Though D remained at that exceptionally high level for me (no more than 60 ng). My vitamin A went down for first time ever to 45 mcg/dl (all my life been tested for A, and was always from 90-100 mcg/dl). Also elements like Fe, Cu, and Cp (ceruloplasmin) sank into the bottom of lab range!
Now I have skin issues (rash, dermatitis), falling, dry, brittle hair. Constipation (thou Ca level same, not high). Don't know what gone wrong! Even my doctor has no idea why or what cause of my problem. Thou he thinks, its possible the extra vitamin D, caused a reduction in vitamin A level. Other than that, we both puzzled as to why my state of health deteriorated.
I've taken Cu 5 mg daily. Also eat many foods high in Cu, such as cashews, sesame, almonds. Estimate total daily consumption Cu 7-8 mg. Yet all lab readings of Cu, Cp, Fe, Ferritin fall in , bottom end of range.
* Vitamin C 500 mg, was stopped, as it was suspected to be cause of Cu, Cp depletion.
I'm thinking of completely stopping D. Taking mega dose vitamin A (retinol), as I done some research, where some good health sources recommend adding vit A, to correct low Cp levels. Will have to experiment on self, retest and see.
Any helpful thoughts, ideas! Thank you.
