Reply To: I was just prescribed Replesta 50,000 IU D3 once a week. The dose is a chewable tablet. Is that dose to much to take in one day? Would it be better to half the dose and take every 3 days, for example? My vit D levels tested at an 8.
I have been experiencing a lot of random symptoms over the past 9 months numbness and pain in head, neck, arm, leg on right side only but have on occasion felt same symptoms on left side. Also, pain in my chest, ribs, back, upper abdomen, all individually or at same time. Pain will move move to different areas of my body from day to day and sometimes throughout the same day. It also seems like I have higher than usual heart rate most of time and sometimes what feels like heart palpitations. Usually all symptoms occur on a daily basis in some form or another and will last anywhere from several hours to all day long. I sometimes get a break for maybe 2 to 3 days where I start to think things are getting better and then symptoms come back as usual and often return with additional symptoms or same symptoms in new area of body that hadn't previously been affected. Even on good days symptoms are not all the way gone. Prior to onset of symptoms 9 months ago I was otherwise 100% healthy and have never had any medical issues prior to this. I am 36, relatively good health (except current issues), 6'0" 210lbs, don't exercise much, don't get outside much during the day, and my diet could probably be better.
I have seen doctors including neurology, cardiology, infectious disease, ENT, and rheumatology over the past 9 months. All tests performed including numerous blood tests all come back as normal. Usually a combination of muscle relaxer and NSAIDs or other pain killers get me through the day. I also take Ronitidine for abdomin pain, and recently switched to Omeprazole instead. I have also been prescribed Lyrica and Neurontin to try with not much success.
Finally, vit D was tested a couple weeks ago and came back at an 8, severely deficient. Can vit D deficiency account for my symptoms as described and if so how long after taking the 50,000 IU weekly should I start to see an improvement in my symptoms, if they are caused by vit D deficiency?
I also, want to mention that most recently I had thyroid test come back elevated but normal after retest a week later, and blood tests from 3 months ago showed high ck and low glucose, all else normal. ck and glucose are normal with most recent tests 3 weeks ago. The doctor who tested my vit D (rheumatologist) suggests that the low vit D levels have nothing to do with any of my symptoms, and instead he is focused on a possible bulged disc in my neck which has not been confirmed yet as an actual problem. With that said, he assumes that the majority of my pain starts and resides in my neck which is not accurate.
I would love to hear your opinion on my situation as it relates to vitamin D deficiency. Thanks.
