Reply To: My understanding is that the optimal level of 1,25 Di-Hydroxy Vitamin D (Calcitrol / Active D) is 50ng/ml. What is the optimal range for 25-Hydroxy Vitamin D (storage D)? Is there an optimal ratio between the two?
Sheldon you have it backwards. The optimal range for 25 Hydroxy Vitamin D (storage) is 50 ng/ml as promoted be the Vitamin D Council. Anything below is really not acceptable and there is an upper end of the range of 100 ng/ml. This is the only test you should rely on to measure your vitamin D levels.
Levels of 1,25-dihyroxyvitamin D have little or no relationship to vitamin D stores so there is no optimal ratio.
