My doctor prescribed 50,000 units of D2 for my Vit. D deficiency (9.1 value on blood test). I understand that D3 (Cholecalciferol) is preferable to D2 (Ergocaciferol), but my pharmacy said they do not carry D3 in the 50,000 dosage. Would it be preferable to take several 5,000 units of D3 which is available over the counter to the 50,000 units of D2?

Absolutely D3 is better for humans than D2! If you take 50,000 iu divided by 7 days that equals a little over 7000iu per day. So you could take a 5000 iu plus a 2000 iu per day or Biotech sells D3 with 50,000 iu per capsule. This you would probably have to send away for to get.
