Information on the latest vitamin D news and research.

Find out more information on deficiency, supplementation, sun exposure, and how vitamin D relates to your health.

I have low hormone D and I can't take supplements because they create such bad GERD it feels like I'm having a heart attack after one pill. And I've tried all kinds from doctors and OTC. Is there anyone else who gets very ill from hormone D? Is this a symptom of an underlying illness? I can't find any info on this. I have no trouble with sunshine. Thank You.

I think Adam comes the closest to what you are experiencing at http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/q-a-forum/topic/i-recently-was-diagnosed-with-a-level-of-8-for-vitamin-d-i-was-prescribed-12-week-50000iu-d2-but-within-two-days-of-taking-it-reacted-with-my-already-chronic-hives-so-i-switched-to-capsule-d3-2/. Vitamin D made his hives and IBS worse. We tried several things (so maybe you want to read through that Q and A) and the last being a sun lamp because he did not think sunshine caused this issue. Unfortunately after several weeks he was having stomach pain from that too.Sometimes Vitamin D can cause low minerals. Calcium and magnesium but sometimes potassium I left him with the thought that maybe he was experiencing hypokalemia which is low potassium. Symptoms include: Weakness, tiredness, or cramping in arm or leg muscles, sometimes severe enough to cause inability to move arms or legs due to weakness (much like a paralysis), Tingling or numbness, Nausea or vomiting, Abdominal cramping, bloating, Constipation, Palpitations (feeling your heart beat irregularly), Passing large amounts of urine or feeling thirsty most of the time, Fainting due to low blood pressure, Abnormal psychological behavior: depression, psychosis, delirium, confusion, or hallucinations. I picked this one since it has the “Abdominal cramping, bloating”. Keep in mind that mineral deficiencies do not necessarily show on the routine blood work that doctors do. You also do not have to have all of the symptoms.
Adam never came back to say anything else or at least not yet.
Can I assume you take it with food? Like anything else you can also have an allergy to it.
