In a new randomized controlled trial out of the journal Pain, researchers administered two different doses of vitamin D matched against a placebo to determine if vitamin D supplementation influences outcomes of pain and headaches.
Musculoskeletal pain and headaches are common conditions and occur frequently in the general population.
These conditions are found to be more prevalent among people with vitamin D deficiency, however much of the research has not focused on pain in a healthy population. Furthermore, studies comparing the effects of vitamin D supplementation on musculoskeletal pain to the effects of placebo are scarce.
The researchers in this study wanted to determine whether or not vitamin D supplementation reduced reports of pain and headaches and whether different doses led to different effects.
