A recent randomized controlled trial published in Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology found that vitamin D supplementation reduces the severity of atopic dermatitis.
Atopic dermatitis (AD) or eczema is a skin disorder characterized by itchy and inflamed patches of skin. Worldwide, up to twenty percent of children are affected by AD, and about one to three percent of adults are affected by AD.
Patients with AD are at an increased risk for skin infection. Itchy skin often causes the need to repeatedly scratch the skin, creating open sores and cracks.
