About the Vitamin D Council

The Vitamin D Council is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, spreading reliable information on vitamin D, sun exposure and the vitamin D deficiency pandemic.

Mission

The Vitamin D Council’s mission is to educate the general public and health professionals on vitamin D, sun exposure, and the vitamin D deficiency pandemic.

Background

Vitamin D is a nutrient the body produces in response to sun exposure. Simply put, people aren’t getting as much sun exposure as they used to. In turn, people aren’t getting enough vitamin D, and vitamin D deficiency is so common in the 21st century that researchers are calling it a pandemic.

The Vitamin D Council is here to help take on this pandemic by spreading awareness on the importance of vitamin D for a healthy human body.

Research on vitamin D is pouring out and it’s hard to keep up with the latest information. Recommendations on vitamin D and sun exposure are confusing, conflicting and inconsistent.

We’re here to help both the public and health professionals sort through everything by providing reliable information on and covering the latest research. The Vitamin D Council serves as a center for evidence-based vitamin D research and is a reliable source for the general public.

Lastly, the Vitamin D Council makes its own evidence-based public recommendations on vitamin D intakes, sun exposure and more.

Founded

In 2003 John J. Cannell, MD, founded the Vitamin D Council knowing that the majority of people in the 21st century are deficient in vitamin D.
