In the United States, many, if not most, pharmacies and health food stores sell 5,000 IU capsules of vitamin D. It is my understanding that in the UK and Europe, it is not possible to purchase this dose of vitamin D over the counter.
However, Greenvits, an English company, ships vitamin D all over Europe. They offer Bio Tech Pharmacal’s vitamin D, so I know it is high quality. They also sell D3Plus, which contains the important co-factors for vitamin D. Here is the link:
Greenvits also sells 50,000 IU capsules, so physicians can improve their patient’s levels quickly. I routinely start patients who get little sun exposure on 50,000 IU/day for a week while I await their 25(OH)D level. Then, I prescribe most patients 5,000 to 10,000 IU/day, depending on their levels.
