How do other minerals and vitamins interact with vitamin D?

In the past few weeks, we’ve received a lot of emails regarding vitamin D’s interaction with other vitamins and minerals such as magnesium and vitamin K. A lot of readers have been wondering if taking vitamin D with other vitamins and minerals is necessary and what benefits arise from taking these together.

Vitamin D interacts with many different vitamins and minerals so I will concentrate only on those nutrients people are likely to be deficient in. Magnesium, vitamin K, boron and zinc are all essential vitamins and minerals for health. Each performs different functions and vitamin D works with each nutrient uniquely.

    Thanks, Dr. Cannell, I have been taking 10,000 IU of D3Plus (6 caps) morning and evening. And also taking 10,000 to 20,000 IU of Carlsen’s 4000 IU drops.

    I arrived at this regimen by experimentation, in view of the fact that I’m about 35 lbs overweight and in my mid-sixties, and backed up by 2 – 3 ZRT tests yearly.

    My last ZRT test was 69 ng/ml.

    I also eat 1 to 2 heaping tablespoons of powered organic almonds for extra, perhaps more bio-available Mg and 1 heaping tbsp of Brazil nuts for Selenium, also powdered, most days. I reasoned that since only 40 to 60% of these substances are absorbed in the gut, I would increase the surface area of these nuts by running them through a food processor, adding them to a half glass of water, and drinking it. This is then followed by another pint or two of water, taken over the next couple hours, along with some fruit and/or grains. Several times a week I add 100 – 200 mg of Mg and 100 mcg of K2.

    Fruits include grapes, blueberries, apricots, peaches oranges, bananas, strawberries, apples, plums, and I make jams with no added sugars, and keep them in the freezer for later in the year.

    I also take 2 – 3 Mercola’s Krill oil caps daily and eat Portugese sardines and other fish 2 – 3 times a week.

    I also take sun in Summer, and UVB sessions in Winter using the D-lite unit you also have.
