Diabetes and endocrine diseases

Diabetes is a long-term condition caused by too much glucose, a type of sugar, in the blood. It is also known as diabetes mellitus.

Endocrine disorders are health problems that occur in the branch of medicine known as endocrinology.  Endocrinology is the study of hormones.

A hormone is a chemical messenger from one cell or group of cells to another. Hormones are released in the body and have an effect on other parts of the body. The effect is to communicate with possibly distant parts of the body.

An endocrine gland is a gland which secretes hormones.
