An introduction to Cardiovascular diseasesTreatment
Anyone considered at risk for or presenting with cardiovascular disease (CVD) should strongly consider increasing serum 25(OH)D levels to somewhere in the 40-80 ng/mL range.
Serum 25(OH)D levels can be estimated based on a number of factors including oral intake and vitamin D production from solar UVB, but for certainty, serum 25(OH)D levels can be measured.
Each 1000 IU/day of vitamin D3 increases serum 25(OH)D levels by 6-10 ng/mL1. Doses as high as 50,000 IU/day can be taken for a few days to bring serum 25(OH)D levels up rapidly.
