My dr recommended I take 2 teaspoon cod liver oil plus 40,000 iu daily one week 30,000 next, 20,000, next and tehn end with taking 10,000iu for awhile after. I did this one day of taing 40,000iu and two teaspoon cod liver oil and about 30 minutes later my back felt like burning, then felt like peeing internally in my back, then been sore ever since. Had mri and they see nothing wrong back there. Now I seem to not be able to control body temp. Could this be a negative effect of vit d and cod liver oil? Is it normal to take vit d and cod liver oil in this high dosage?

    First of all can I assume you only took it the one day then stopped because you had this reaction?
    Vitamin D has been given in much higher amounts then this without the reaction you had. We at the VDC try and stay away from cod liver oil and this is a great thing to read at http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/newsletter/newsletter-dr-cannell-answers-reader-questions/#comment-5273 scroll down to #9. The 40,000 iu of Vitamin D is not too much if you are deficient. Here is something that may help and please let me know if it does. Please absolutely read http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/about-vitamin-d/vitamin-d-and-other-vitamins-and-minerals/. Magnesium (and some other vitamins) are extremely important and most people do not get enough from their diet and must supplement. Get yourself some magnesium (and not magnesium oxide) take between 500 – 700 mg a day. Please also use the other co -factors. Do this before trying any Vitamin D again.
    If you decide to use the Vitamin D again maybe it would be better for you to start out slowly, let’s say 2000- 5000 iu a day and work your way up. I would stop at 10,000 iu a day and eventually get your blood level checked and go from there.
