I got a vitamin D 25 oh test done, it shows that I have 42nmol/l that would be 19ng/l. My doctor simply said I should take one pill (1000IU) per day. I have really bad sleep and read that article from Dr. Gomniak, she suggest that for optimal sleep 60-80ng/l would be ideal. Which dose do you recommend?

Doctor is wrong. We at the Vitamin D Council recommend taking 5000iu a day and reaching a blood level of a minimum of 50ng/ml (125nmol/l). That is what humans need to stay healthy. The 5000iu is based on an average weight person of 150lbs so you may need a little more or less than that.
I think you will see a vast improvement with your sleep if you increase your levels.
Please read https://www.vitamindcouncil.org/about-vitamin-d/vitamin-d-and-other-vitamins-and-minerals/ it is very important. Vitamin D uses a lot of magnesium to process things and low magnesium can also cause sleep problems.
