VDC test kit slider
I am 28 years old and 20 weeks pregnant. At 15 weeks I had my vit D tested. It came back at a 10.7 which I know is severely low. My general Dr. and OB have agreed to only put me on 1000-2000mg of Vit D daily. However, my chiropractor and I strongly agree that I need more. What is a safe range to take while pregnant?

I am a member of the VDC. A safe amount to take is a minimum of 5000 iu a day and I believe 6000 iu is promoted for pregnancy. Here is a very good article that I recommend you read. https://www.vitamindcouncil.org/further-topics/vitamin-d-during-pregnancy-and-breastfeeding/
You and the chiropractor are right! Also keep in mind that your blood levels are very low so I would aim for the 6000 iu and retest again. It would be wise to also read https://www.vitamindcouncil.org/about-vitamin-d/vitamin-d-and-other-vitamins-and-minerals/
You can also check back here to see if anyone (Dr. Cannell) might recommend you take a higher amount than 6000 iu for a while then cut back to 6000 iu since you are so low. You can take up to 10,000 iu safely with a blood level up to 100 ng/ml.
Please do not wait too long to take more!!!!!

Thanks for the prompt response! That really helps a lot. I guess I just don’t understand why, if Vit D is so important in pregnancy, it is not monitored or checked routinely.

I am not a VDC member, but would like to recommend checking out the work of drs. Bruce Hollis and Carol Wagner, for example
