HI, My wife recently had surgery for primary hyperparathyroidism. A horrible disease that went undiagnosed for what I am guessing a minimum or 3 years. Surgery was successful but she install recovering. she is having to deal with a vitamin D deficiency. she has suffered some mental fog and mental function from this disease and she is 2 months post op. My question is this: As a supplement by prescription, should she be getting Vitamin D2 or Vitamin D3? I am having troubling finding the correct answer as to what the difference and as to which is best for her health and recovery. She is taking vitamin D3 on her own over the counter brand, but when she gets a prescription it's D2. Baffled.

In some places, like the US, prescription Vitamin D is still in the form of D2. It has already been proven in studies that D3 is better for humans to take. It has also been proven that it is better to take Vitamin D3 everyday rather than in large doses given, for example, once a week or once a month.
Your wife should take D3 and take it everyday just like she is doing.
