Hello, I have a 23 lb toddler and a 35 lb toddler. I have recently started supplementing them with 1000 IU vit d3 gummies daily. They also take Carlsons children's cod liver oil with a ratio of 225 IU vitamin A to 200 IU vitamin D3 daily. We live in Michigan and aren't getting exposure to any son lately. Before supplementing with vit d3 gummies, I thought that the daily intake of Carlsons cod liver oil and their vitamin d milk intake would suffice as enough but after researching I'm finding that may not be so. They have been coming down with colds frequently lately. My question is: Is their daily intake of 1000 IU vit d3 gummies in combination with their daily cod liver oil and milk intake too much vitamin d3 for them? What is the safe upper intake of vit d3 for toddlers? Violet

    The VDC lists a safe “upper” limit for toddlers as 2000iu for every 25 lbs of body weight. So “no” it is not too much Vitamin D.
    Having said that Dr. Cannell has always said to be careful how much “preformed Vitamin A”, also called retinols and retinols go by several different names, that one ingests and says to follow the government guidelines at https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/VitaminA-HealthProfessional/. (Figuring out Vitamin A requirements can get complicated.)There it says for ages 1-3 years should be 300mcg RAE a day. According to that website 1 cup of milk has 149mcg RAE per serving. Now what I do not know is how much they drink per day. If they have 3/4 to 1 cup of “fortified cereal,that adds between 127-149 mcg RAE. So “preformed” vitamin A is added to foods for fortification. Vitamin A derived from beta carotene is not an issue.
    So I would be more worried about the Vitamin A in the Cod liver oil (it is preformed) then the Vitamin D. So maybe you want to take a good look at how much “preformed” Vitamin A is in their diet and then maybe forgo the cod liver oil and just give them the D.
    You are a wonderful mother for researching how much Vitamin D is needed for them to stay strong and healthy. Unfortunately the rest of the world is not so lucky, so we continue to educate and get the word out.
    As they get older make sure you educate them to the benefits of Vitamin D and how important it is.
