Hello, My daughter has level 15.8 of Vit D. She is 19. Her naturopath wants her to take 10,000 units for the next month or two and then recheck. Her nutritionist says not to take this all at one time. The naturopath prescribed 10,00 unit capsules. Is this a problem for absorption? She is also iron deficient. She is also overweight and trying to get healthy. Please let us know if it is ok to take the 10,000 once a day. THANK YOU!!

    It is absolutely Ok to take the 10,000iu each day. Her naturopath is correct. She should take it once a day and with a little food that has some fat in it. I would assume that someone is addressing the low iron with a supplement also.

    Just to let you know when you are overweight it usually takes more Vitamin D to reach the level we recommend which is 50ng/ml or slightly above . So if the 10,000iu does not do that she may have to take more. Sometimes you need to take more in the beginning and then less later on to maintain a good level.
    I hope you test everyone in your family. Odds are everyone is deficient or have levels less then 50ng/ml. Most average weight and height people need 5000iu a day.

      Thank you. Her iron level is 8 she is taking 29 mg 3x a day. Also Calcium 1000 mg, fish oil 1000! mg and Vit B complex . Any info you have is appreciated. And you are right…I have low Vit D too….but am getting it under control and we live in the Pacific NW. Thanks!
