Hello – After taking Vitamin D supplements for over 6 months in mid 2016, my count was still very low. My doctor put me on Prescription Vit D2 for 12 weeks, and the follow-up blood test revealed my count was even lower than before I started it. He put me on another 12 weeks of the same Prescription Vit D2. My next blood test will be late February 2017. Why is my body not absorbing the Vitamin D? What would the next step be if this second round doesn't improve my count? Thank you, Carol

    You said “After taking Vitamin D supplements for over 6 months”, just how much did you take per day? If 5000iu or more you should let me know. Then it could be you are not absorbing it. If you took less than 5000iu a day it was not enough. Weight can be a factor. The more you weigh, the more you have to take. The amount we recommend which is 5000iu a day, is based on 150lbs.
    Humans should not take D2, they should only take D3 and taking D2 can make D3 levels go lower. You need to stop taking the D2 and just get over the counter D3.
    If the doctor prescribed 50,000iu of D2 once a week, you can just substitute the same amount of D3. It is better for you though, to take D3 on a daily basis. That would equal about 7-8000iu of D3 a day for 12 weeks and retest.
