The Vitamin D Council

The Vitamin D Council is a nonprofit organization that promotes the use of vitamin D for optimal health. The council was founded in 2003 by Dr. John Cannell, a psychiatrist who noticed that many of his patients were deficient in vitamin D and believed that this deficiency was contributing to their mental health issues. Since then, the council has become a leading resource for information about vitamin D and its many health benefits.

Vitamin D is a nutrient that is essential for the proper functioning of the human body. It is produced by the skin in response to exposure to sunlight, and it is also found in some foods such as fatty fish, egg yolks, and fortified foods. Vitamin D is important for maintaining strong bones and teeth, as well as supporting the immune system, cardiovascular system, and brain function. The council suggests that people who are at risk of vitamin D deficiency, such as those who are older, have dark skin, or are obese, may need higher doses of vitamin D to maintain optimal health.

Despite the many health benefits of vitamin D, many people are deficient in this nutrient. This is often due to a lack of sun exposure, as well as a lack of vitamin D-rich foods in the diet. The Vitamin D Council promotes the use of vitamin D supplements as a safe and effective way to maintain optimal vitamin D levels, and provides resources and guidance for people who want to incorporate vitamin D into their health routine.

The Vitamin D Council is a valuable resource for information about vitamin D and its many health benefits. By promoting the use of vitamin D for optimal health, the council is helping people to live healthier and more fulfilling lives.
