Research from Lipids in Health and Disease discovered that mice genetically bred to have no vitamin D receptors display different levels of key proteins involved in cell proliferation, cell adhesion and migration, stress response, and lipid transport compared to wild mice.

Vitamin D receptors are found throughout the body on nearly every tissue, but there is an especially high concentration of them the small and large intestines.
