My VITAMIN D level was 17 last year. I have been on 5000IU OF VITAMIN D for the past year. I can't seem to get my level up to more than 22-30. Is it possible that I am not processing this? I have even changed brands with no change. Any help would be appreciated.

I will assume you are taking the 5000 iu every day. I will also assume that your Vitamin D level was measured as ng/ml and not nmol/l.
If you weigh more than 150lbs, you need to take more than 5000iu a day. If by chance you already are in a diseased state or have an autoimmunity condition, you will need to take more. If you have any intestinal issues or gastric bypass, that would affect absorption, then you need to take more or perhaps switch to an oral spray that may absorb better.
If none of that applies than you just need to take more. (Could be your genetic make-up.causing it.) Since your levels “do rise” when you take 5000 iu, I would just take more.
I would try doubling it to 10,000 iu a day. I would wait two months and if you can, retest. If your level has not gone up much, at that point, than let me know.

Thank you for the reply. My vit d was measured ng/ml. I will try the 10,000 IU daily and retest. I am 120 lbs, did not have gastric bypass or autoimmune condition (that I know of). I am 64 yrs old and exercise, do not eat red meat, and I have an elevated cholesterol level with an elevated LDL and 71 mg/dl HDL. I also have been dx with mild osteoporosis in some bones. I do not take any medications. I am suspecting some digestion issues causing poor absorption since some foods do not agree with me. I may try the oral spray–sounds like it may be better for me. I will let you know if the level doesn’t rise.
