It is better to take Vitamin D on a daily basis. Having said that if you missed for example Wednesday’s dose, then I would double up on Thursday’s. Also for example if you said I could never remember taking it daily and therefore if I cannot take it once a week, then I will not take any. Then far better to do the once a week then none at all!Answered by IAW on November 19, 2015 at 3:17 pm

We have just started taking 10,000 IUs daily in our house as we are all decificient and nobody can handle that amount. We have severe headaches and body cramps that indicate a magnesium deficiency. So we began 500 mg of Mag Citrate. That helps, but the D3 still makes us all wired as if we had many cups of coffee! I have taken D3 in the past and noticed that 6,000 daily (plus the 800 IU from multivitamin) did not wire me up. I would like to go higher than that but it seems none of us can tolerate it.Answered by kimanjo78271600 on November 25, 2015 at 4:55 am

I am not a scientist or doctor, only a member. So I can only speculate and make suggestions.
Even though you would like to take more, perhaps genetically you simply do not need more then the 6000-7000iu.
Perhaps you really need to square away the magnesium deficiency before even trying higher amounts. Sometimes I have recommended taking magnesium for a week or two before even trying the Vitamin D. You can try taking even more magnesium if you want to. Worse case scenario is that you will get “loose bowels” and then you have to cut back on the amount you are taking.Answered by IAW on November 25, 2015 at 5:26 am

When I learnt about vitamin D deficiency I was severely deficient and taking 3 doses of 20,000 IU per week. I ended up having severe bone pain in between doses and so was unable to work. Though I had bone pain before due to deficiency, this pain was much worse.
I was on another forum and another person in the UK also reported the same problem with the same regime, so I therefore reported this issue to the medicine regulators we have in the UK. Now patients are warned this is a possible side effect.
Therefore I would never advise anyone to take their weekly vitamin D in one dose even though there is one study around that states it makes no difference whether you take a daily or weekly dose of D3.
In regards of taking high doses it depends on your blood level. I’ve not had problems taking daily doses from 2,000IU to 10,000 IU.Answered by Olly800 on February 16, 2016 at 3:16 pm

I might said you should split your doses about 7,000 IU per week until you reach 50,000 ui along with Mg (300 mg), My self I have Vit D deficiency, and I started having Epsom Salt baths for 2 weeks before having my diagnostic. I started taking 5,000 ui (Vit D3) for one week and then I switch to 10,000 ui for another 2 weeks, and so far my symptoms have been reduced (particularly I was suffering of pin and needles all over my body), however I eliminated my Epsom salt bath last week since I got loose bowels, I’m just taking 400 mg per day of Mg citrate. I just a little bit concern of develop kidney stones because of the high doses of Vit D3 per day. So I’m considering split 50,000 ui along the week, maybe 1 month more and then ask for my vit D3 to be check. I just want to share my experience. Thank you.Answered by wendolyneglez98749500 on April 15, 2016 at 5:13 am

Not everybody needs 5-10k/daily or 50 000 weekly. To keep levels constant, you could either supplement an amount few days a week or daily. I prefer daily dosages, to ensure the levels do not drop. Also all people doesn’t need 5k-10k daily. I’ve heard it’s about 5% of the population that do fine with 2k/day, (when levels are normal). Me myself and some others, while our levels climb to normal ranges. We have to take 5k every other day or like 2000-2500 ie/day. If i take 5k daily, my sleep suffers, and this has nothing to do with co-factors, i’ve tried all of them and still take all except k2 & boron for now, cuz it gives me insomnia. I’m better of getting natural sources and taking my k1, it does the converting process excellent.Answered by Amoll05079300 on May 30, 2016 at 1:15 am
