First I am going to answer your question. Do NOT stop taking the Vitamin D. The most you may want to do is not take it the day you get/do the blood test and then take it when you are done. Just so we are clear some people think that once they have an acceptable level, they can stop taking the Vitamin D. Not true their levels will plummet again.
Now since you have MS, 5000iu a day or a blood level of 50ng/ml might not be enough for you. The 50ng/ml that we recommend to reach and maintain, is based on a 150lb person and what it takes to keep them healthy. To heal a disease state may take a lot more Vitamin D.

I know that MS can be reversed with high doses of vitamin D3. It is time you start listening to Dr. Cicero Galli Coimbra in Brazil. He has treated people with autoimmune diseases since 2003. He believes it is unethical to do double blind placebo-studies because people can loose their eyesights and be severely disabled. I am one of his patients and I do not understand why the medical community does not listen. Dr. Coimbra deserves a Nobel prize!!!! I am so angry because it really is the way to cure MS and other autoimmune diseases – and it is with doses that is individual. He has developed a protocol. You should all be ashamed for not listening to him and all of us who are his patients.

We know that the “official” safe upper limit is 10,000iu a day. We also know that it takes 40,0000iu or more a day, for months, to maybe start reaching a toxic level.

Since I am not a doctor or scientist, I cannot tell you what to do. You will have to decide. Keep in mind that Vitamin D should only make you feel better. If you get any “symptoms” from taking Vitamin D, then your intake of magnesium is probably not high enough. (I assume taking the 5000iu has not created any “symptoms”.)
