Find out more information on deficiency, supplementation, sun exposure, and how vitamin D relates to your health.

I am a 30 years old healthy male living in greece. The last two-three years i am facing serious erection problems, cold hands-feet, dry red eyes, frothy urine. I had my thyroid removed back in 2005 but i had no such problems before. Did a ton of rheumatological factors, cardio exams, a ton of urine tests all negative. I searched a lot about my symptoms and i found that i could be vit d deficient. I did blood tests by my self and my vitamin was found really low, only 15 ng/ml despite the sun we get here. My endo told me to take 2200UI D3 pills once per day. The improvement was huge. For a week, i could feel way better, no fatigue and my erections were back again, no red dry eyes, no frothy urine! However, really strange, after the first week the same old symptoms came back again like i never took the supplements… Can you help me in what is going on, or to guide me as what things to troubleshoot please? I am thinking that maybe my vit d is low for another reason, maybe other cofactors missing or i dont know. Thank you very much for your time to read my mail, Regards

Can I assume you did not stop taking the supplements and that you were actually still taking them when you got the symptoms back? The supplements can never be stopped at least in winter. Greece has a latitude of 39 degrees and therefore you fall into the area that you cannot make very much Vitamin D from November thru February. http://www.vitamindday.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Sunshine-Calendar.pdf
The 2200iu is not enough to keep you healthy. You need a minimum of 5000iu a day. This is based on a person weighing 150lbs. So if you weigh a lot more you need to tell me.
So take 5000iu a day and your goal is to have a blood level of a minimum of 50ng/ml. In several months you should try and retest to make sure your levels have increased. If you take the 5000iu a day and the symptoms return again, let me know.
You are welcome! Hope you feel better soon!

Yes, i were still taking the supplements. Actually I am still taking the supplements. I weigh about 175lbs.

I will try to increase the dose.

Can I take double dose of my 2200UI pills?

If you can I would quadruple for a week or two (8800iu) then try triple dose of 6600iu. At your weight you really need closer to 6000iu as a maintenance rather than 5000iu. If you can’t then double is much better than single.
